BAR TREASURES
THE CLASSICS OF SPECULATIVE CINEMA
The better-behaved sibling of BAR TRASH, BAR TREASURES was a cinema social event that projected the classics of speculative cinema, across sci-fi, fantasy and horror (and anything else that slides into my programming). BAR TREASURES projected in informal spaces to expand audiences’ film history in comfy surroundings with a relaxed vibe.
For adults aged 18+ only.
PROGRAMMES
BAR TREASURES launched with a series of seven ANIME CLASSICS at Rule Zero in Hackney Wick. These were the films that introduced Japanese animation to the world, including: MEMORIES, GHOST IN THE SHELL, TOKYO GODFATHERS, COWBOY BEBOP: THE MOVIE, METROPOLIS, STEAMBOY, and PAPRIKA. Our closing event as the venue shut its doors for good (RIP) was GAMERA, GUARDIAN OF THE UNIVERSE in July 2024.
The programme then transferred to the lovely Members Bar at Finsbury Park Picturehouse with ATOMIC ORIGINS, a monthly season of sci-fi screenings. Celebrating 70 years since Godzilla first stomped across our screens, ATOMIC ORIGINS looked at how the monstrous power of the atom bomb unleashed an era of apocalyptic science fiction. Films included: THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, WARNING FROM SPACE, THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN, GAMERA: THE GIANT MONSTER, FRANKENSTEIN VS BARAGON, GAMERA VS GYAOS (August to December 2024).
