BAR TRASH continues our 14th sensational season — TRASH PLANET 3: APOCALYPSE! — with a frighteningly prescient sci-fi thriller, SOYLENT GREEN (1973).

“IT’S THE YEAR 2022… PEOPLE ARE STILL THE SAME. THEY’LL DO ANYTHING TO GET WHAT THEY NEED. AND THEY NEED SOYLENT GREEN.”

A dystopian eco-nightmare directed by Richard Fleischer (RED SONJA), SOYLENT GREEN serves a cautionary tale of population overcrowding, depleted natural resources, sex slaves, and ultra-processed food.

The evil older sibling to Season 10’s fan favourite, LOGAN’S RUN (1976), SOYLENT GREEN tells a similar tale of a future world under totalitarian control while replacing the laser sparkle and hologram spectacle with a more downbeat palette of urban grime, contraband, and seriously challenging socio-economic inequality.

Starring Charlton Heston in his other great dystopian sci-fi saga (after PLANET OF THE APES and THE OMEGA MAN), SOYLENT GREEN also features the 101^st and final screen appearance of legendary Hollywood gangster, Edward G. Robinson. Richard Fleischer’s shocking film won multiple genre awards for Best Film, and closes with one truly iconic quote (that we won’t repeat here for fear of spoiling the plot…). Once seen, never forgotten.

Polite notice: We are showing SOYLENT GREEN with subtitles from its recent 4K restoration.
