A Shakespearean actor takes poetic revenge on the critics who denied him recognition.
Chosen by our very special guest – award-winning drag king and costumier, Loose Willis – THEATRE OF BLOOD (1973) is a darkly comedic British giallo with an incredible cast and more gore than you’d anticipate. It’s also deeply dedicated to the daft art of dressing up…
Vincent Price stars as discarded Shakespearian actor Edward Lionheart, soliloquising his way though a series of extravagantly staged kill scenes. Lurking in the shadows, (Dame) Diana Rigg is Edwina, Lionheart’s loyal daughter and henchman. Without explanation, Edwina dresses in an iconic series of moustachioed masculine looks, making her one of cinema’s ultimate drag kings.
Following the film, Loose Willis and Token Homo will be chatting about THEATRE OF BLOOD and the influence of horror cinema on contemporary queer cabaret. Linger afterwards for a bar social!
Queer-led, CRUISING promotes inclusion through accessible programming, vibrant hosting, radical film histories, and a diverse lineup of guests with their own distinctive voices. All films are served with introductions by Token Homo and post-screening conversations in the venue bar. For adults aged 18+ only.
