CRUISING
CRUISING: CULT FILMS & CONVERSATION
I devised CRUISING to help celebrate the launch of Theatreship, a new arts venue moored in the old docks of Canary Wharf. The event paired cult, curious and classic cinema with friendly film chat, hosted by me and some very special guests.
CRUISING launched with a site-specific screening of James Bond film THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH – Theatreship is moored where the film’s opening sequence was shot – featuring special guest, foley artist Ruth Sullivan, who reminisced about working on the film and her subsequent career. CRUISING set sail on its farewell voyage on 12 May 2024 with Vincent Price’s THEATRE OF BLOOD featuring special guest, drag king Loose Willis discussing the relationship between horror cinema and contemporary queer cabaret (and the influence of Diana Rigg’s drag king looks on Loose’s career).
The CRUISING programme included the following events:
- THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH with special guest, foley artist Ruth Sullivan (03 Mar 2024)
- Ronald Neame’s THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE (10 Mar 2024)
- Alfred Hitchcock’s LIFEBOAT (17 Mar 2024)
- Derek Jarman’s THE TEMPEST (24 Mar 2024)
- Neasa Hardiman’s SEA FEVER (31 Mar 2024)
- Greydon Clark’s UNINVITED (07 Apr 2024)
- THEATRE OF BLOOD with special guest, drag king Loose Willis (12 May 2024)
Queer-led, CRUISING promoted inclusion through my usual mix of accessible programming, vibrant hosting, radical film histories, and a diverse lineup of guests with their own distinctive voices.
