Cult film night BAR TRASH continues at Beer Merchants Tap with CELLULOID JAM!, an unofficial celebration of 50 years of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (1975).
“SOMETHING WEIRD IS HAPPENING AT WYATT AND GARY’S. THEY WENT FROM ZEROES TO HEROES IN ONE FANTASTIC WEEKEND!”
Two high-school nerds use a computer program to create the perfect woman, who promptly turns their lives upside-down.
Celebrating its 40th Anniversary, we are stupidly proud to bring you WEIRD SCIENCE (1985), a slice of cult nonsense drenched in 1980s DNA, and the first ever film by teen flick maestro John Hughes to make it to BAR TRASH.
Inspired by E.C. Comics (home of Tales From The Crypt in the 1950s) this tale of adolescent horndog wish-fulfilment — two straight(-ish) boys use a computer to create their ideal virtual woman (Kelly LeBrock) — is considerably boosted by a killer soundtrack including the title theme by new wave sensations Oingo Boingo, and some very peculiar adolescent cross-dressing.
“WEIRD SCIENCE awkwardly captures the sexual frustration and compensatory hostility of nerdboys in heat like no other film at the time, and its dissection of the self-hating shortcuts many boys take to protect their egos is surprisingly evenhanded.”
Travis Mackenzie Hoover, Slant Magazine
Polite notice: We are showing WEIRD SCIENCE with subtitles from the best available digital source. You might find some scenes uncomfortable due to their age inappropriate comedy.
