TRASH OR TREASURE? Resurrecting “The Worst Films of All Time”
BAR TRASH goes to the movies! For this special event, BAR TRASH will take place in Genesis Cinema’s Studio 4. KING KONG (1976) will be presented with an introduction but without an intermission.
A petroleum exploration expedition comes to an isolated island and encounters a colossal giant gorilla.
Legendary movie mogul Dino de Laurentiis presents a big-budget remake of the 1933 classic, KING KONG. Plans to use a full-size animatronic Kong – a truly monstrous 40-foot robotic folly overseen by SFX maestro Carlo Rambaldi (the father of E.T.) – proved unworkable, so make-up artist Rick Baker (OCTAMAN, VIDEODROME) slipped into a state of the art ‘monkey suit’…
KING KONG (1976) was given a special Oscar for ‘special visual effects’ by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. SFX artist Jim Danforth (THEY LIVE, CLASH OF THE TITANS) resigned from the Academy in protest: “I went to great lengths to point out that Rick Baker was not in any way in my opinion to be considered a ‘special visual effect’. No more than Bert Lahr could be considered a special effect when he played the Cowardly Lion in WIZARD OF OZ”.
KING KONG (1976) featured in The Golden Turkey Awards as winner of “The Biggest Ripoff In Hollywood History” award. But how bad is it…? Join Token Homo and help him decide with our new ‘trash or treasure’ polling cards.
‘BAR TRASH goes to the movies!’ titles are served with themed drinks, introductions and prize giveaways. Tickets from £3. BOOKING NOW!
