In 1980, Indonesian exploitation film studio Rapi Films and writer/director Sisworo Gautama Putra unleashed SATAN’S SLAVE aka Pengabdi Setan, a singular chiller that rocked the religious nation, transformed the country’s film industry, and remains one of the most influential shockers in Asian horror history. 

With “an intense creepiness that stands the test of time” (The Jakarta Post), and starring Ruth Pelupessy (THE SNAKE QUEEN), and W.D. Mochtar (MYSTICS IN BALI), SATAN’S SLAVE is a “classic from the Golden Age of Indonesian horror” (Monster!) that will serve something entirely different for the spooky season.

Featured special makeup effects artist: Born in Bandung, Indonesia, S. Parya (1936-2000) – occasionally credited as S. Paria – was an actor and art director who also worked in makeup special effects for such films as PENGABDI SETAN (1980), JAKA SEMBUNG (1981), and NYI BLORONG (1982), and its two sequels (1983-86) during the 1980s.
