Cult film night BAR TRASH continues with its 11th sensational season — SYNTHETIC FLESH! — a tribute to more than 100 years of monster makeup FX.
“A sex-crazed creature feature”(Mondo Digital), this former ‘Video Nasty’ kicks off when a girl, mourning the death of her mother at the family tomb, accidentally awakens an ancestral demon. Twenty years later, the demon reawakens to take control, leading to a gory nightmare of lust, terror and death!
A maxed-out mix of 1980s supernatural horror and slasher excess, Michael Dugan’s MAUSOLEUM (1983) is a stylish, sleazy, and outrageously gory production, featuring a series of imaginative creature designs and death scenes orchestrated by FX wizard John Carl Buechler, a BAR TRASH favourite from GHOULIES (1984), TERRORVISION (1986), ZONE TROOPERS (1985), and DOLLS (1986).
In the VHS-burning mayhem of the ‘Video Nasties’ moral panic, this “schlocky and silly” (Blockbuster Video Guide) but thoroughly entertaining horror yarn was seized and confiscated in the UK under Section 3 of the Obscene Publications Act 1959. We are showing the fully uncut 97 minute version which still had a ‘misleading category symbol’ removed by the BBFC in 2023, but that doesn’t affect the horrors that can be found lurking in the MAUSOLEUM!
