Lucifer is reborn as a high school student, pursued by archangels sent to destroy him.
“ALEXANDRIA HIGH… CLASS OF ’81 — ALL THE STUDENTS ARE GOING TO HELL, EXCEPT ANDREW… HE SENT THEM THERE!”
Cult film night BAR TRASH continues with its 11th sensational season — SYNTHETIC FLESH! — a tribute to more than 100 years of monster makeup FX. Continuing our ‘Queer Monstrosity’ sidequest, we are stupidly proud to present “the original Demon Twink” (Justin McDevitt, Rue Morgue) in Frank LaLoggia’s debut feature, FEAR NO EVIL (1981).
About a “conspicuously effeminate high-school senior who turns out to be the embodiment of Lucifer” (The New York Times), FEAR NO EVIL caused controversy on its original release but now speaks to our social media age. At the peak of its post-pandemic popularity, Gay Twitter “had a field day” (Sacha Coward, Queer As Folklore) with a lurid tweet by DJ Ty Sunderland from a Britney Spears boat party: the ‘demon twink’ became an instant and enduring cultural phenomenon. What’s a ‘demon twink’? Well, it’s a reference to the flamboyant, petulant chaos created by a shallow, self-obsessed young gay man… And we can’t get enough of it!
Featured special makeup effects artist: FEAR NO EVIL is the first CV credit for three-time Emmy Award winning makeup SFX artist Cheri Montesanto who won 3 years on the hop as Head of Makeup FX for THE X-FILES (1999, 2000, 2001). Montesanto was also a makeup artist on BAR TRASH favourite TANK GIRL (1995), which almost makes her part of the family.
Polite notice: We are showing FEAR NO EVIL with subtitles from the best available digital source.
