“THEY’LL GET YOU IN THE END!”
A young man inherits an old mansion from his occult worshipping father. He quickly becomes possessed by his daddy issues and learns to summon ancient demons.
GHOULIES comes from legendary B-movie studio, Empire Pictures (1984–88). Founded by maverick movie mogul Charles Band (aka “The Prince of Schlock”), the studio was a family affair with Band’s wife Debra Dion, dad Albert, and brother Richard all playing pivotal production roles.
GHOULIES was one of 5 films Band produced to launch his new studio: its massive success would define the Empire DNA. Earning an initial $35million on a budget of $500k – “GHOULIES outgrosses BEVERLY HILLS COP!”, Variety – the film spawned three sequels and a slew of complaints from irate parents who alleged the poster made it harder to potty-train their kids.
We’re showing GHOULIES from vintage VHS which is how most 1980s audiences first encountered the magical world of Charles Band’s Empire Pictures. Come back next week for more from this much-loved but surprisingly short-lived studio.
